And there were instances when at least four employees within the organization were aware of the secret recipe.

Following Dr. John S. Pemberton’s creation of Coca-Cola in 1886, his formula was a secret, only being shared with an intimate group of people and not recorded.
As of 1891, Asa Candler was named the sole owner of Coca-Cola after acquiring all rights in the Company.
To fund the purchase, Ernest secured a loan, and also as collateral, he supplied evidence of the formula telling Asa, his son, who was named Candler’s Son, to write down the formula. The formula was then placed in a vault at the Guaranty Bank in New York until the loan was paid in 1925.
In 2011, when Coca-Cola commemorated its 125th worldwide anniversary, The secret formula was relocated into a vault in the World of Coca-Cola.

How it is Kept Secret:
The original formula is stored in an unidentified SunTrust Bank in Atlanta. To keep SunTrust off the table, Coke gave them some 48.3 million shares of stock and had each Company’s CEO be on the other’s board of directors.
The Company has rules and regulations surrounding the Secret, which include everything from the bizarre (the two executives that were aware of the formula were not able to fly in the same aircraft) to the odd (no person can look at it without God, Jesus and Elvis present or anything in that manner).
