how to remove eyelash extensions

Eyelash extensions have become the beauty service of preference. There’s no need to apply new lashes every day. Lash extensions offer instant gratification and can be used even if you don’t have them. A long set of eyelashes is enough to convince anyone to spend the money on such a service. But with busy schedules and a growing list of responsibilities, we need more time and patience to keep our lashes trimmed. Can you remove your eyelash extensions at home?

Experts recommend having eyelash extensions professionally removed. But there are safe methods to remove them at home. Continue reading for more information and the best practices to maintain healthy eyelashes.

Is it a good idea to remove lash extensions at home?

Now that you know how you can cut your hair and are skilled in DIY pedicures, it might feel safe to attempt eyelash removal. You should leave the removal of eyelash extensions to professionals. It involves removing professional-grade lash glue. The tools used by a professional eyelash technician are required. Home removal could lead to infection. Eek!

“For the safety and health of your eyes, you should always wait to have your eyelash extensions removed by an expert,” says Andra Ceulei Marin. She is an eyelash extension stylist and the artistic director of Courtney Akai Lash Boutique NYC. Los Angeles-based makeup artist Ashley Gomila agrees.

For the safest and most effective removal, I recommend going to a professional who applied the eyelashes. She warns that not all lash-bonding agents are equal and could cause permanent damage. “Besides the possible damage, removing them from your home would take trial and error.”

How to remove eyelash extensions at home

First, lash pros won’t advise removing eyelash extensions at home. Even the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) recommends that these items be left to licensed aestheticians.

Christina Clark, a licensed esthetician who also studied with NovaLash, states that “professionally trained lash techs possess lash extension removers [cremes/gels and liquids] from the companies they buy from.”

Clark offers tips to help you remove your eyelashes at home if you want to do it solo.

Wash your face

Do the same thing as you would for your regular face wash. It would help if you did not scrub your eye area. It can pull on your lashes, causing damage.

This step removes mascara and any eye makeup that may have accumulated on the eyelash extensions.

Warm the Oil

Make a small oil bowl. Coconut oil is the best oil to remove lash extensions. However, vegetable oil and olive oil are all good choices.

The next step is heating the oil. The oil should not be too hot as you will be handling sensitive eyes.

Try dipping your clean pinky fingers in the warm water. For the fastest results, you will need mild warmth.

Make sure to use cotton pads.

Once the oil has warmed, soak one to two cotton pads. Allow the oil to cool on one side of the eye. Then, use the oil to coat your eyelashes.

Remove Lash Extensions

Gently remove the eyelash extensions by gently holding the tweezers in your hand and pulling them out at 45 degrees.

If you cannot see the glue that holds your eyelash extensions in place, use a makeup remover wipe to remove it gently.

MASCARA

Mascaras are a popular makeup product that almost every girl uses. Mascaras add beauty to your eyes and provide a finishing touch to your makeup.

Majority of mascaras in the market use oils and waxes. It is not recommended to use mascaras on people with longer lashes. If you need to remove false lashes, mascara can be applied as often as possible.

Regularly using oil-based mascara weakens the extension glue and speeds up the removal process. It also makes the lashes weaker and helps blend them. You can use mascara to enhance your makeup look.

EYELASH EXTENSIONS – HOW NOT to REMOVE

While removing eyelash extensions shouldn’t be difficult, there are many ways you could go wrong and endanger your natural lashes. Remember that your eyelash extensions should never be pulled out. Even if your lashes are falling out naturally, you shouldn’t encourage them to go. Your natural lashes can be easily pulled out if your lash extensions get too much. Treat your lashes, real or fake, with care. If you are trying to remove extensions, be gentle.
